People Living Through Cancer welcomes you to the library. The library contains more than 900 books on topics of interest to those dealing with cancer, and their families and friends. Books are chosen to be useful to the lay reader, and are not intended as an alternative to expert medical advice. General subjects included in the library are books on specific types of cancer, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer, and books on various types of treatments and therapies, including alternative medicine. The collection provides a wide variety of books on personal coping strategies for patients and care-givers, from dealing with emotional and psychological issues to keeping journals and developing wellness strategies. A variety of specialized cookbooks and books on nutrition are available for special diets, and books on home-care issues cover a wide variety of topics. We also have books on exercise and mediation. The collection includes a variety of first-person accounts by cancer survivors, both famous-Peggy Fleming, Lance Armstrong, Arlen Specter- and the less well-known. In addition, the collection includes videos, Cd's, and cassette tapes and a set of basic reference books. We also have many free publication and pamphlets. Library books may be checked out by any citizen of New Mexico: up to four books at a time, for four weeks. Library hours are the same as our office hours.
