People Living Through Cancer is a special 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides cancer support services to anyone who has been touched by cancer, including cancer survivors, caregivers, families and friends.
The support groups are led by specially trained peer facilitators and mental health professionals.
All support services are offered free of charge to all those touched by cancer.

Training Objectives

To understand the normal, human responses to a cancer diagnosis.

To develop skills as a support group facilitator.

To experience facilitating a support group.
Please remember that you do not need to be a counselor, therapist or mental health professional to become a volunteer facilitator.

Our groups are open & ongoing.
Groups will be added throughout New Mexico as needed.
Volunteer Facilitators commit to attending groups for a full year. Each group meets at least twice a month and each meeting averages 90 minutes.
Through the course of a 12 month commitment, volunteer facilitators attend about 20 groups. Group members depend on your presence.
Peer Facilitator Volunteer Guidelines
All volunteer facilitators are required to:

Attend the entire training

Assess your own readiness:

Facilitators are better prepared to lead groups if it has been at least one year since completion of their or their loved ones treatment.

Complete a volunteer application.

Submit a minimum of 3 references.

Sign a volunteer agreement.
At the end of the training, a trainee's readiness to become a facilitator will be reviewed.
