Facilitator Training

Registration is closed for this event
This training is designed for individuals interested in volunteering to serve as facilitators for our support groups. Individuals who do not plan to volunteer, will find the information helpful in their own professional setting, and will be accepted on a space-available basis.

People Living Through Cancer is a special 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides cancer support services to anyone who has been touched by cancer, including cancer survivors, caregivers, families and friends.

The support groups are led by specially trained peer facilitators and mental health professionals.

All support services are offered free of charge to all those touched by cancer.

Here are a few examples of what our facilitators say about their work at People Living Through Cancer:

"This is the most rewarding thing I do."

"I always get more than I give."

Our groups are open & ongoing.

Groups will be added throughout New Mexico as needed.

Volunteer Facilitators commit to attending groups for a full year. Each group meets at least twice a month and each meeting averages 90 minutes.

Through the course of a 12 month commitment, volunteer facilitators attend about 20 groups. Group members depend on your presence.

Peer Facilitator Volunteer Guidelines

All volunteer facilitators are required to:

  • Assess your own readiness:
    • Facilitators are better prepared to lead groups if it has been at least one year since completion of their or their loved ones treatment.
  • Complete a volunteer application.
  • Submit a minimum of 3 references.
  • Sign a volunteer agreement.

At the end of the training, a trainee's readiness to become a facilitator will be reviewed.
